In a bold press conference held today, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has raised serious allegations against the National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing them of employing a secret, disruptive strategy to capture political power in the upcoming 2024 elections by any means necessary, including through what the NPP has described as “foul means.”

Addressing the media, the NPP director of communications Mr Richard Ahiagba, commended the Majority Caucus of Parliament, led by Majority Leader Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, for demonstrating maturity and restraint during parliamentary sessions on October 22, 2024. He criticized the NDC Minority for their “infantile provocation and delinquent conduct” in what he described as an orchestrated effort to derail the nation’s progress.

The press conference centered on what the NPP claims is a leaked “Secret Document” from the NDC, which allegedly outlines an 11-chapter strategy to win power through disruptive and undemocratic means. According to the NPP, the document encourages the NDC to frustrate government business, block revenue-generating policies, and destabilize the economy to make the government appear ineffective ahead of the December 2024 elections.

Key sections of the document, as highlighted by the NPP, reveal a plan to leverage the NDC’s influence in Parliament, particularly its ability to delay or block key legislative measures. This, the NPP argues, has been evident since 2021, with the NDC allegedly using its parliamentary strength to obstruct important government policies such as the E-Levy and other revenue measures.

“The NDC has a plan to capture political power even if it means sabotaging the economy and causing Ghanaians to suffer,” the NPP spokesperson stated. He urged Ghanaians, especially the youth, to familiarize themselves with the document, which he described as a blueprint for chaos.

The NPP further accused Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, of colluding with the NDC in their attempts to obstruct government business, claiming that the Speaker has abandoned his role as a neutral arbiter.

As the press conference drew to a close, the NPP reiterated its confidence in the leadership of its presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, urging Ghanaians to reject the NDC’s tactics and vote decisively for the NPP in the December elections.

The NPP’s revelations come just weeks before the 2024 general elections, heightening tensions between the two main political parties as they vie for control of the nation’s leadership.
