The National Identification Authority (NIA), which resumed work on Wednesday June 10, after a Covid-19 break in March, says nearly 800,000 Ghanaians have received the Ghana Card since the exercise began. The NIA says the ongoing exercise will enable approximately 3,934,073 Ghanaians who could not receive their cards during the mass registration exercise to do so.
This means over 11million Ghanaians will possess the Ghana Card by the time NIA finishes its work on June 18, 2020.
Out of that number, a total of 10,295,578 Ghanaians who are within the voting age of 18 years and over would receive the cards.
The NIA has asked persons who registered but have not received their cards to go to the registration centres where they registered to pick them up.
“To receive the card, a Ghanaian must present the registration application form, the print out or receipt given at the time of registration, or provide other relevant information to be cross-checked against his/her photograph and personal details contained in a Registration Centre Album,” the NIA has said.
A statement issued yesterday and signed by ACI Francis Palmdeti, NIA’s Head of Corporate Affairs, asked Ghanaians with concerns about the card issuance process to contact 0205044793 on whatsapp or call 0302-738-333, 0242438615.
Continuation/mop-up
Meanwhile, the Authority says it will continue the mass registration in the Eastern Region, which was suspended on March 21, 2020 in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak. “The exercise will take place from 18th – 27th June 2020,” it has announced.
The Authority has also given a registration schedule for mop-up exercise in 15 regions, except Eastern Region, which is expected to begin from June 18 to September 4.
“It is expected that a total of 16.7million Ghanaians would have been registered and issued with Ghana cards when the mop-up exercise is completed,” the NIA has said.
