Mr. Isaac Kwaku Apenteng, the Executive Director of AKURASE PROJECT, a rural development advocacy organization, has asked parents not to abuse the Free SHS program introduced by the government. According to him, parents still have some reponsibilities to fulfil in the lives of their wards and should not shun them because of the policy.
Some parents, he indicated after ‘dumping’ their kids at schools leave them to their fate in the name of Free SHS without taking into consideration that they still have roles to play in their upkeep.
“If government pays for tuition, feeds and cloth your wards and you refuse to buy them common sanitary pads, shaving sticks and toiletries, you are being irresponsible as a parent” he stated.
Mr. Apenteng made the assertion on Friday, 11th of October, 2019 when Akurase Project donated some educational materials to pupils of Abonse Presby School in the Eastern Region. The items included exercise books, pens, pencils, white board markers, mathematical sets, crayons among others. He indicated that the items were to support the pupils in their education.
Mr. Godfred Opare, the Head Master of the school, who received the items expressed his gratitude for the kind gesture saying it will go a long way to help the children.
“Children are happy when they see such items and we believe it would help them to forget the pains they are going through and also help their academic performance ,” He said.
