The Ghana Police Service has assured Chiefs and revelers of a peaceful celebration of the Ngmayem Festival this year. According to the police, all necessary arrangement has been put in place to protect revelers who will be attending the festival in the Manya Krobo area of the Eastern Region.
Speaking to the Daily Statesman in an exclusive interview ahead of this year’s festival, Sup. Winfred Asare Nyarko, the Akuse District Police Commander, said all necessary security apparatus have been checked and pre-tested to ensure their readiness ahead of the festival.
“I am assuring all revelers that security is already in place and tight for the 2019 Ngmayem festival of the chiefs and people of the Manya Krobo. We are ready to combat and tame all perpetrators who would want to disturb the peace of the area because of the festival,” he stated.
CAUTION
Sup. Nyarko has also cautioned revelers who would want to take advantage of the celebration to perpetrate crime to stay away from that. “I am cautioning and warning both residents and visitors who turn out to be mischievous in such moments by pick pocketing, robbing and unnecessarily calling for fights to desist because the law won’t show it’s merciful face to anyone found guilty”, he stressed.
NGMAYEM FESTIVAL
The Ngmayem festival is an annual festival by the people of Manya Krobo to commemorate bumper harvest for the year especially millet and to also show gratitude to God for protection in the year while praying for God’s love and mercy for the year ahead. It is often celebrated in October of every year.
This year’s festival will start from Monday, 21st of October to Sunday 27th of October. The shall be a grand durbar of chiefs, people of Manya Krobo and people from all walks of lives including politicians, government functionaries among others on Saturday 26th of October.
