The National Youth Organizer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, aka Nana B, has stated that the former President John Mahama cannot use Ghanaians for his political experiment.
He indicated that the presidency is meant for serious people and the former President’s track record gave an indication that he is going to cause more damage if he is allowed to lead this country again adding that the presidency is not a place for correcting political mistakes. This is in apparent response to the former President’s assertion that he made some mistakes while in office and must be allowed to come and correct them.
The former president’s comments have attracted response from a section of Ghanaians who have asked him to state exactly the mistakes he claims to have committed.
The Youth Must Know
Speaking in Tamale in the Northern region during ‘The Youth Must Know’ series, an initiative of the NPP youth Wing, Nana B said former president Mahama and the NDC saw the challenges and problems confronting the people of the North, as opportunities to exploit and enrich themselves following fraudulent and shambolic supposed pro-poor policies implemented during their days in government. He also added his voice in asking former president to state the exact mistakes he is re-seeking the presidency to correct.
“The SADA idea to scale up development in the Northern regions was originally proposed by President Akufo-Addo when he was the flagbearer of the NPP in 2008. Characteristic of the NDC, they stole the idea and named it Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA). An initiative meant to reduce poverty and improve livelihood was, overnight, transformed into a special purpose vehicle for create, loot and share,” he said
Insensitive
Nana B said a Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) report in 2017 report, covering how the Mahama government used scarce oil money, revealed that, 50 per cent of projects inspected in the Upper East, Upper West and the then Northern regions which were to be funded with petroleum revenue could not be traced accusing the former president of diverting “millions of dollars of oil money in the name of executing projects in the Northern regions”.
He accused the former president of being insensitive against the people of the North by superintending over growing unemployment in the area and plundering the Northern enclave into poverty and hardship zone.
Successes
The NPP Youth Organiser used the opportunity to highlight some achievement of the Akufo-Addo government. He mentioned the Nations Builders Corp, the Free SHS, the Planting for food and Jobs, the strong economic indicators, the booming agric sector among others urging Ghanaians to stay focus and maintain the Akufo-Addo government for a prosperous Ghana.
