The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has entered into partnership with Zoomlion Ghana Limited to ensure that they restore Kumasi to its past glory as the Garden City of West Africa by greening and cleaning the environment.
Launching the new strategy, dubbed ‘Sustainable Cleaning, Greening and Beautification project of Ashanti’, the Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, indicated that the project entails the planting of trees and public education against indiscriminate disposal of waste.
According to him, “the motive behind this is to ensure that Kumasi goes back to the days of being recognised as the Garden City of West Africa. Again, this partnership also seeks to maintain discipline amongst residents in the city and the region as a whole”.
He mentioned that street sweepers would be employed from Zoomlion Ghana Limited with branded containers and trucks to help clear the city of waste.
Again, the Minister added that the ARCC would sensitise the public on the need to keep the city clean and stop the indiscriminate disposal of unwanted liquid and solid waste.
He added that enforcement of sanitation bye-laws would be intensified to check indiscriminate waste disposal and sanction offenders as well.
For her part, the Managing Director of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Madam Gloria Anti, said her company was happy to undertake such an important exercise with the RCC, and pledged their support and commitment to make the exercise remarkable.
She further stated that the company had already made provisions for sanitation equipment and other requisite machines to aid the smooth execution of the project.
Madam Gloria Anti gave the assurance that Zoomlion Company Limited would do its best to enhance the hygienic conditions of the region.
