The Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Rev. Dr. Seth Kissi has challenged Christians to see their Profession, vocation as well as their roles as parents, husbands, wives, community leaders and traditional authorities as a calling. He explained that those who see there as their calling demonstrate faithfulness in fulfilling the purpose of what they do. Rev. Dr. Seth Kissi said this in a sermon on Sunday at the dedication of ultra-modern church building at Kyebi Odumase Bethel Congregation in the Kyebi South District.
The Presbytery Chairperson retaliated the need for such people that God is meeting the needs of the World and Society. He was of the view that the problems of our society are not insurmountable, our only problem is that people tend to work for money rather than faithfully fulfilling their roles in building a healthy society. He insisted that the problems of injustice which takes the innocent into Prison and sets the guilty free will be a thing of the past only when our Judges and Lawyers were to see their profession as calling.
Rev. Dr. Seth Kissi stressed that all professionals and people engaged in various vocations should see themselves as people who hold the solutions to our social, economic, political and environmental challenges. He further called the attention of all parents to the urgent need to fulfill their calling in the care and supervision of their children especially in these times when kidnapping and other social vices are always being heard.
Rev. Dr. Seth Kissi urged all Christians to be diligent and consistent in doing what is right regardless of whether efforts are acknowledged or not and be mindful of the fact that God rewards faithfulness. He urged church members to plant trees to serve as windbreak to their houses and other public houses.
Narrating the brief history of the church, Rev. Dr. Bernard Kofi Adinkrah the Acting District Minister as well as the Minister In Charge said the church was founded on 15th June, 1934 by few people led by the late Mr. Quist Amaning from Abiriw-Akuapem. He said the old church was built on 15th December, 1934 and Mr. Quist Amaning was appointed the caretaker of both the Church and the School which started with fifteen pupils and was named “Odumase National School”. He said in 1952, Opanin Kefa Otu a Seventh Day Adventist Member (SDA) from Larteh Akuapem donated his house at Odumase to the Church to be used as the Mission House and ever since been used as a residence for all the 20 Catechists who have worked in the Church. He said it was during the tenure of Catechist E.C Asante who worked for only one year that the Sod-cutting Ceremony for the commencement of the new church building was done on 16th November, 1993.
Both past Catechists and Elders of the Church were honoured with citations. In all twenty five citations were received by dedicated members or by their representatives; among them were Catechists, Samuel Opoku Apraku, Rebecca Tetteh Wayoe (Mrs), Joseph Kwame Addo Boteng, Agnes Tetteh Adamowah, F.A.A. Anie Amoah, Owusu Bruku, S.K. Attuah. Some Presbyters were, Opanin Nicholas Ampofo, Emmanuel Som Ansa, William Annoh, Obiri Maclean, Emmanuel Sakyi Mantey, and Seth Ansa. The rest were Madams Esther Kwakyewa Sabu, Cecilia Adu Mantey and Mary Dotcher among others.
The occasion was used to also introduced, the uncompleted five bedrooms Story Building as Ministers Manse, a renovated Old Church Building being use to attend morning and evening donations, a renovated Presby JHS and Primary School with a beautiful compound. The attached offices with modern toilet facilities. Some donors were commended for their support and generosity which helped to complete the works on time.
Among them were the late Op. E.K. Asare’s family led by Mr. Hillary Agyemang Danquah, Madam Agnes Nyarkoa Asare. Others were Miss Hanna Asabea, Mr. Ansa Ntow, Mrs. Betty Ayisi Martey, Mr & Mrs. Collins Akonnor who together with the church Tiled and painted the church building, provided Ultra-Modern Single Stuffing Chairs to replaced the Old Pews as well as new sets of Musical instruments and a large size projector and its accessories and many others.
Other dignitaries present were Nana Obuobi Ntim Atiemo – Chief of Odumase, Apostle Martin F. Anie-Amoah, Rev. Ofori Bediako, Presbytery Clerk and a host of Catechists and Presbyters from the District.
An appeal for funds yielded over Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis in aid of the completion of the new story building.
