Chief of Suhum in the Eastern Region, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi, has stated that the ritual killings that at some point became associated with the town have been dealt with. He indicated that this is due to the security measures put in place by the Traditional Council and the Suhum Municipal Security Council. “These 20years have been a state of missed feeling, but in all God has been good to us. The ritual killings that at some point became associated with this town is now a thing of the past and we are hopeful that such barbaric act will not return to our land again,” he said.

Suhum, at some point, nearly became a den of ritual killings in the country. A day would not pass without one reported murder case or the other. The town at some point was a red spot for security officers and many people alike due to the constant reported cases of ritual killings.

However, speaking at this year’s durbar of chiefs and people of the town to mark the Suhum Odwira Festival and 20 years anniversary of the coronation of the Chief of Suhum, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi stated that it is heartwarming that such news is now a thing of the past.
He expressed hope that such bad news that plagued the area in times past would not revisit the area again.

Requests
The Suhumhene, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi, also urged the government to walk the talk in ensuring that the 100 per cent school feeding coverage it has promised the people is achieved. “We did not put guns on your head. You came to tell us this right here. We will be expecting this and if this is not achieved, we will be telling the people what you said which you couldn’t achieve. When that happens, no one will be blamed for doing politics,” he said. Osabarima’s response was to a statement made by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Suhum Constituency, Frederick Opare Ansah, that government intends to expand access of the school feeding programme to cover all public basic schools in the Municipality.

He used the opportunity to educate the people on the upcoming December 17 referendum meant to amend Article 55 (3) of the Constitution to allow for political parties involvement in local level elections. He urged them to Vote Yes during the referendum.
