The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sam Pyne, has stressed that the Akufo-Addo administration is too focused to be distracted by the National Democratic Congress and its 2020 presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama.
He noted that the Supreme Court election petition brought against the President will not have effect on his work since he remains focused.
According to him, a visionary leader like President Akufo-Addo will not be swayed by a ‘mere’ court case, adding that the case would not in any way affect the performance of the government.
Commitment to duty
Speaking to the Daily Statesman, Mr Sam Pyne noted that being sworn in as the President of Ghana is enough reason for President Akufo-Addo to work out his very best to fulfil the promises he made to Ghanaians.
Mr Pyne believes that a competent transition team, coupled with able appointees put together by the President clearly indicate that the NPP’s administration is focused and determined to continue bringing more wins to the country.
The NPP Regional Secretary has, therefore, advised the opposition NDC to come to terms with the reality, adding that the court of justice will never condone falsehood.
Journey to nowhere
He added that the NDC should know that the game it is playing will land it nowhere, urging the opposition party to stop provoking the Justices of the Supreme Court. “As they know already, their actions can never make the visionary leader go astray. I must also say that this cannot serve as a distractive tool to our government,” he said.
Former President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday December, 30 2020 filed an election petition at the Supreme Court to challenge the outcome of the December 7, 2020 presidential election, in which declared President Akufo-Addo as the winner.
Yesterday the Supreme Court dismissed an application filed by the legal team of the petitioner seeking to strengthen their argument by asking for a review of the court’s ruling on some questions they had wanted to ask the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Adukwei Mensa.
The Justices of the Supreme Court, in throwing out the supplementary application, explained that: “we find that our inherent jurisdiction cannot be invoked under the circumstances of the case when the rules of the court have made clear provisions in the exercise of our jurisdiction in this matter. We accordingly dismiss the application”.
President Akufo-Addo won with 51.59 per cent vote ahead of Mr Mahama who had 47.37per cent votes.
Although the NDC took the issue of election fraud to court, it has not been able to produce evidence to their allegations.
Ashanti development
Meanwhile, Mr Pyne has expressed confidence that the Ashanti Region will get a lion share of development in the Akufo-Addo’s second term government.
He noted that a chunk of the first batch appointees of President Akufo-Addo are from the region, “and this shows that Ashanti will get it roads, hospitals and the lots that the region deserves”.
The Regional NPP Secretary further stated that the Acting Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, was maintained for a purpose, and that will be to benefit of the region.
