The Sekondi Central Prisons has appealed to the general public to come to its aid with more personal protective equipment (PPEs) to aid the fight against the outbreak and spread of Covid -19 among the inmates.
DSP Ibrahim Yakubu, the Welfare Officer, who made this appeal, noted that although the government and the Ghana Health Service have already donated quantities of PPEs to the prisons, more is still needed.
He also asked members of the general public to help stock the prison’s infirmary with drugs for treatment of sick inmates.
DSP Yakubu made the appeal when he received two heavy-duty spraying machines and a gallon of Chlorine from the Takoradi Central Church of Christ on Monday.
The items were donated by Brother Dan Owusu-Asiamah, a preacher at the Church, to help fumigate the prisons.
DSP Yakubu said the donation would help protect both inmates and prison officers, describing it as timely intervention.
