Residents of Sekondi Takoradi have been assured of having their fair share of infrastructural development under the Akufo-Addo led NPP government.
The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, who gave this assurance, said the NPP is a government that is ready to invest in Sekondi-Takoradi and Western Region as a whole.
It is against this backdrop that he has urged the residents to rally behind government in transforming the oil region.
Confirmation
He was speaking at the confirmation of Abdul-Mumin Issah as the new Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, following the sudden demise of his predecessor, K K Sam, some three months ago.
All the 52 assembly members voted ‘Yes’ in a first round balloting last Friday to endorse Mr Issah’s candidature.
According to Mr Darko-Mensah, the President did not get it wrong in selecting the 57-year old private businessman and former chairman of the Takoradi constituency of the NPP as the new Mayor to partner him in developing Sekondi-Takoradi.
He expressed confidence in Mr Issah’s ability to turn the economic fortunes of Sekondi-Takoradi around during his tenure of office.
Achievement
The Minister used the opportunity to enumerate some achievement of the government in the metropolis. They include which the redevelopment of Takoradi Market Circle; the construction of a double road from Sekondi to Takoradi; the upgrading of Effia Nkwanta Hospital from a regional hospital to a teaching hospital; and establishment of a railway university.
He also spoke about plans by the government to, among others, change the Takoradi-Tarkwa highway from a single to double lane.
The Minister said it takes a compassionate, visionary and dynamic government to dream and execute such projects, and urged residents of the twin city to give the NPP “four more years to do more”.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Issah, popularly known as ‘Moon’, thanked the President, the Regional Minister, the assembly members and the traditional leaders for the confidence reposed in him, assuring them that he would live up to expectation.
He stated that his administration will focus on job creation, improving revenue mobilization, sanitation and security.
