The Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency in the Eastern Region, Frederick Opare Ansah on Saturday toured and monitored the ongoing limited voter’s registration exercise to know how things are fairing so far as the exercise is concerned in the Suhum Municipality.
Opare Ansah after touring the Suhum and Nankese centers where the registration took place commended the youth for involving themselves in the exercise.
He expressed that, the limited voter’s registration gives the opportunity to the youth to register and be eligible to vote and that, calling on them to participate in the exercise.
Opare Ansah who is now the Chairman of Parliamentary Select Committee On Communication highlighted the importance of the voter’s ID card as he believes the advantages with regards to the card is enormous.
“Voters ID are not needed for elections alone, it is one of the means of establishing your identity. When one wants to contest elections, the laws state it clear that you must have an ID card. In fact, there are several things that require voters ID” he said.
He has therefore commended Ghanaians for conducting the limited registration peacefully and has urged them to continue deepening the democracy.
The ECOWAS Member of Parliament added that Ghana stands tall when it comes to democracy and has, therefore, called on Ghanaians to keep it up by ensuring that, Ghana continues to be a module for other countries.
Responding to issues of having a new registrar with the Minority being against it, he avails support for the call by the majority to have a new registrar.
“I will by all means support. It cost a lot to put the registrar together but am for it. It will cost us more if we have an electoral dispute over the register. If the EC thinks that the register we have today is not credible enough so it needs to be updated, I support it” he ended.
