Information reaching the Daily Statesman indicates that the Ghana Armed Forces has earmarked Tatale-Sanguli District in the Northern Region for the setting up of a military base.
The military base is expected to help the Ghana Immigration and Police services to man the activities of border patrol.
This has been confirmed by the Tatale-Sanguli District Chief Executive and Chairman for District Security Council, Thomas Mbomba.
He said the presence of the military in the district will put a stop to the many incidence of armed robbery, smuggling and other illicit activities.
According to Mr Mbomba, the base will also strengthen the efforts of the security in the fight against the threats of terrorism, and increase surveillance at the unapproved entry routes across River Oti through neighbouring Togo.
“It will further avert the illegal entry of the herdsmen into the district, from neighbouring countries, stop smuggling, among other menaces in the district,” he said.
