A fatal accident, involving a Mercedes Benz sprinter bus with registration number GT4087-15, at Adelakope, near Akuse Junction on the Akosombo to Tema motorway stretch, has claimed the lives of two male passengers.
The accident, which occurred on Monday, February 22 at about 6:40pm, also left several passengers onboard the sprinter bus in critical conditions.
Cause
Information gathered indicates that the driver of the sprinter bus, Anku Christian, 34, was driving towards Kpassa from Ashaiman. And on reaching Adelakope, one of the tyres of the bus got burst, which forced the driver to lose control of the wheel, sending the vehicle to the bush and hitting a big tree.
Speaking on the incident, the acting Eastern Regional Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Police Service, Sergeant Francis Gomado, disclosed that investigations are currently under way to properly ascertain the main cause of the unfortunate accident.
He also indicated that the dead bodies had been deposited at the Akuse government hospital morgue awaiting identification while the rest of the passengers in critical condition, including the driver, were also receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Okada accident
In a related development, another accident at the Dawa Kolewa junction in the Upper Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region has also claimed the life of a motorbike rider.
According to eye witness account, the motorbike rider collided with a sachet water truck, losing his life instantly, while his lower limb went missing after the crash, which occurred on Monday, February 22.
