Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumua has stated that in fulfilment of its promise to provide ‘infrastructure for all’ Ghanaians, all 260 Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts in the country have benefitted from the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo infrastructural development agenda since it took power in 2017.
According to the Vice-President, the massive infrastructural drive span across all sectors of the country.
Dr Bawumia adds that the ‘unprecedented’ infrastructural development embarked upon by the Akufo-Addo administration have all happened within a record time of less than four years in government.
“Infrastructure for all includes all the amenities that people need in order to unleash the potentials for growth in their communities, constituencies, and districts, and ultimately improve the conditions of everyday living. It also includes facilities and systems to support industrial and other economic activities,” said the Vice-President.
Every Ghanaian matter
Speaking at a virtual Government Town Hall Meeting and Results Fair in Accra on Tuesday, Dr Bawumia said having realised the disproportionate allocation of infrastructure in the country, the Akufo-Addo government has, in its first term in office, pursued an agenda to ensure even spread of amenities to accelerate growth at both the local and national levels.
He noted that historically, government infrastructure projects have been concentrated in the big cities at the expense of deprived communities, saying the Akufo-Addo government has, however, decided to leave no one behind as far as development is concerned.
“To ensure equitable and inclusive growth, the provision of infrastructure amenities or facilities should not be dictated narrowly by our politics. Every community, district, and region deserve expanded opportunities for growth and improvements in their standard of living.
“It should not be for government or politicians to decide on the sharing of infrastructure amenities on the basis of tribal, ideological, and political preferences,” he stated.
Flagship programmes
The Vice-President used the opportunity to enumerate the various infrastructural projects embarked on by the government. He stated that in all about 17,334 individual projects have been started since the Akufo-Addo government took over the country.
“We have completed a total number of 8746 projects throughout the country. A further 8588 projects are at different stages of completion throughout the country.”
Dr Bawumia said the infrastructure projects have been achieved under various government’s flagship projects such as One Constituency One Million Dollars; One Village, One Dam; One Constituency, One Ambulance; One District, One Factory; Zongo Development Fund; One District One, Warehouse; among many others.
He urged Ghanaians and the media to independently verify the projects on government’s special portal www.deliverytracker.gov.gh assigned for them.
Breakdown
Giving a breakdown of the projects, the Vice-President noted that a total of 1927 road projects have been undertaken across the country, out of which1307 are completed with 620 currently under construction.
“Government has selected three critical roads in every region. Work is ongoing on all these critical roads and are at various stages of completion, including the famous Eastern Corridor road, for example Jasikan-Dodo-Pepesu road, Bolga-Bawku (80% complete) and Lawra-Hamile (complete).
“In the Urban areas, across the country, since the beginning of 2017, we have done 589 km of Asphalt Overlay, rehabilitating and upgrading of 143.61 km of roads, reconstruction of 97.8km and resealing of 48.82 km of roads across the country,” he said.
He added that four state of the art interchanges at Tema, Pokuase, Obetsebi Lamptey and Tamale are also under construction with sod cut for the Nungua Interchange while works on PTC interchange in Takoradi is expected to begin in September.
In the area of health, Dr Bawumia stated that contracts have been signed for the construction of 429 CHPS compounds in rural communities with 243 of them completed and 186 at various stages of completion.
He said 55 maternity blocks and wards are also being constructed at different health facilities across the country, which 36 have been completed and 19 are at various stages of completion.
He added that four drone centres have been constructed to improve delivery of essential services at deprived and remote communities while a first ever Infectious Disease Centre in Ghana has been delivered with collaboration from the private sector adding that 307 well-equipped state of the art ambulances have been procured and managed by the National Ambulance Service.
The Vice-President further stated that16 out of 30 projects inherited have been completed, including 10 polyclinics and two district hospitals with nine other district hospitals ongoing.
Dr Bawumia further listed under projects in Agriculture, Digital Infrastructure, Energy, Education, Security, Railways, Sports, Housing, Sea Defence and Airports among others.
