As part of the 50th Anniversary year long celebration of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), GEPA on Friday 26th July, 2019 donate medical supplies, drugs and equipments to the Bomdwen Health Centre at Abompe in the Fanteakwa South District of the Eastern Region.
This gesture counts as one of the several Corporate Social Responsibility endeavors earmarked by GEPA this year. Abompe is noted for traditional Bauxite Beads Craft which is one of the key nontraditional export product in GEPA’s basket of goods.
As Ghana Trade Promotion Organization (TPO), GEPA concerns itself with ensuring that it’s stakeholders live in good health and work in a congenital environment.
The selection of this health centre for this donation follows from a pledge made by GEPA’s CEO, Ms Afua Asabea Asare when she visited Abompe Bauxite Beads Producers Association as part of her resolve to locate indigenous business entities
The list of items worth over GHc45,000.00 which were donated by Mr Albert Kassim Diwura (Deputy CEO) and assisted by Ms Akua Agyeiwaa Botwe (Director, HR and Administration) on behalf of GEPA Management and staff included;
200 Bottles of Mentholated Spirit.
300 packs of Multivitamin Tablets.
500 Bottles of Multivitamin Syrup.
50 packs of Paracetamol Tablets.
200 packs of Diclofenac Gel.
100 packs of Diclofenac Injection.
10 packs of Glucometer.
20 packs of Test Stripes.
100 packs of Flagyl.
150 packs of Amoxicillin Capsules.
1000 Bottles of Paracetamol Syrup.
250 Rolls of Cotton Wool.
500 packs of Hand Gloves and
1 Weighing Machine.
Mr Diwura emphasized that, “one of GEPA’s major motivations for this donation was to resource the Bomdwen Health facility to better serve members of the Abompe Bauxite Beads Producers Association.”
Receiving the donated items Nana Buabeng II, Sanaahene of Abompe who doubles as the Chairman of the Association expressed their utmost appreciation to GEPA for such a phenomenal gesture in the life of the bauxite beads producers and the surrounding villages. He conceded that, they feel very much motivated to work more harder to produce more bauxite beads for export.
Adding to it, the caretaker/head of the health centre, Mrs Lydia Yeboah (Snr. Staff Midwife) and her supporting staff were overwhelmed by the quantum of medical supplies donated to the facility noting that this was the first of it’s kind since the facility was established. She assured the GEPA Team that they will work diligently to ensure the health and wellbeing of all the village folks especially the Bauxite Beads Producers.
GEPA CONSTRUCTS CRAFT CENTRE FOR ABOMPE BAUXITE BEADS PRODUCERS
In line with the implementation of GEPA’S One District One Exportable Product (1D1E), bauxite beads was identified as the main exportable product within the Fanteakwa South District.
GEPA as part of it’s operational mandate constructed a new Craft Centre for the Abompe Bauxite Beads Producers which is yet to be commissioned.
GEPA has reaffirmed it’s commitment in ensuring that individuals, groups and organisation engaged in the value chain of our nontraditional export products are given the necessary support that will enable them efficiently and increase their production volumes. This is geared towards achieving the target of $5.3bn export by 2021.
