A regional communications director of the governing New Patriotic Party in the Eastern Region, David Prah, has served notice that the party will chase out “any hooligan who tries to disrupt the voters’ registration exercise” slated to commence from June 30.
According to the NPP communications director, all qualified persons have the right to go through the registration exercise, adding that the NPP will therefore not allow any individual or group of persons to deprive Ghanaians of such right.
“We will not allow any hooligan to disrupt the process; we will chase you out. We are not joking. Let anybody try. My advice to the NDC ‘machomen’ who will be used for this nonsense, before you leave the house with the mind-set of going to disrupt the registration, make sure you are prepared for anything. We shall protect Ghanaians, the EC officials and we shall protect the exercise,” he told the Daily Statesman.

Mr Prah’s warning follows similar words of caution given by the Eastern regional youth organiser of the NPP, Jerry Osei Poku, and his regional secretary, Jeff Konadu Addo.
The regional youth organiser in a statement early this month said, “We the youth wing of the party has followed with rapt attention raging debate and commentaries relative to the legitimate decision of the Electoral Commission to commence the compilation of a new Voters Register in the last week of June 2020.
“Of particular concern to us, necessitating these statements, are the threats from the NDC and Mr Bernard Mornah (PNC National Chairman) to disrupt the exercise and visit mayhem on Ghanaians, should the mass registration exercise be carried out by the EC.
“The youth in the Eastern Region shall, in the spirit of the 1992 constitution, resist any attempt by the NDC, its assigns or any organized group to disrupt or truncate or compromise or halt the registration exercise of the EC in any part of the region.”
On Tuesday, June 23, the regional secretary at a press conference in Koforidua said, “I am sounding a word of caution from the Eastern regional branch of the NPP to the NDC who have planned to disrupt the registration exercise that we will make sure that the laws are being used to help the EC organise a successful voters’ registration exercise in the region. If they bring any misunderstanding, we will also not understand. As long as EC is going by the laws of the country, we will also support it.”
