Parliamentary Candidate for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Mpraeso Constituency, Davis Opoku Ansah, has asked Ghanaians to re-elect President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to continue his ‘massive’ infrastructure gains in the education and other sectors of the economy.
OPK, as the NPP Parliamentary Candidate is affectionately called, says the gains made in educational policy and infrastructure, such as the Free Senior High School (SHS) that has benefited over 1.2 million students cannot be allowed to be eroded hence the need to maintain the Nana Akufo-Addo government
Mr Opoku Ansah made these remarks at the inauguration of the party’s campaign team and working committees at Kwahu Asakraka in the Constituency.
He said the government in addition to implementing its flagship Free SHS has also built infrastructure to sustain the programme adding that any attempt on the part of Ghanaians to change the Nana Akufo-Addo government will mean trying to jeopardize the success of the programme.
He added that the absorption of the examination fees of all Junior and Senior High School candidates, sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has put money in the pockets of parents and hence should be considered during the December 7 general election.
NHIS debt
Mr Opoku Ansah added that government has cleared the National Health Insurance Scheme debt it inherited making the scheme highly viable and effective.
“When this government took over office, the National Health Insurance Scheme was heavily indebted, where service providers were in debts because the government then couldn’t pay them. However, since this government took over power, we have paid all debts,” he said.
30,000 target
Mr Opoku Ansah stated that the party is targeting at least 30,000 votes from the total number of votes in the constituency urging members of the campaign team and working committees inaugurated to work hard towards it.
“Let’s forge ahead together and work hard for victory. Let’s put in our best in this campaigning season to deliver our targeted votes,” he said.
He promised to put the interest of the constituents first, saying, he would prioritize the social and economic needs of constituents in the provision of basic social amenities and employment opportunities.
The campaign team has the Parliamentary Candidate and Constituency Chairman of the party as co-chairmen, with the party’s Constituency executives as members.
The rest is a six-member advisory committee, volunteering committee, new media committee, election and research committee, among others.
