Some five districts in the Volta Region will benefit from an €11.5million Phase III water supply project, which is currently completed and undergoing practical testing and commissioning.
The project, which will benefit about 80,000 residents in the beneficiary districts, includes three water towers of 50 cubic metres volume each that were built at Kpeleho, Sofa and Kpatove.
There is also 240 cubic metres volume ground tank and booster station constructed at Kpeleho where the water is lifted to all the zones in Adaklu.
Taking his turn at the State of the Region Report organised by the Information Ministry yesterday in Accra, the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, disclosed that 315mm transmission lines had also been laid over 37km while another 133km of various diametres distribution lines had also been laid.
He also said that under Phase 4 of the water project earmarked for his region, North Tongu, Ho West and Agotime Ziope are the targeted beneficiary districts.
Touching on the €97million Keta Water Supply project currently ongoing at Agordome, Dr. Archibald Letsa said 422,000 consumers will benefit from the project.
“Agordome-Sogakope, Keat, Anloga and their surrounding communities and towns, including Kpodze, Kpotame, Vume, Tefle, Sokpoe, Dabala Junction, Horvi-Kokoroko, Salo, Galo…Vodza, Kedzi, Nukpesekope, and surrounding villages, will be served adequately by the project,” the Minister said.
Education
On education, the Minister said that 87,000 students are benefitting from the flagship Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, noting that to deal with the double-track system, 19 emergency educational projects are ongoing.
“By 2024, all schools will move from double track to single track schools,” the Minister disclosed.
He further announced heavy investments in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in three districts in the region.
Road
On road infrastructure, Dr. Archibald Letsa told pressmen that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government inherited just 30 percent of good roads, especially the Eastern Corridor, from Asikuma Junction to Gushegu.
Currently, 360km, representing 79 percent of the Eastern Corridor, is in good condition.
He also acknowledged other road infrastructures in the region which have either been completed or are under various stages of completion. They include asphalt overlay in Hohoe, upgrading of Klefe town roads, bitumen surfacing from Akweteh to Adaklu Waya, the completed 70m span steel bridge on Galosota-Bomingo feeder road as well as Akosombo-Juapong railway line.
