The One Ghana Movement has unequivocally condemned the ongoing violence, vandalism, and looting by NDC hoodlums and thugs reported in several parts of the country, including Damongo, Awutu Senya, Nsawam, Tamale, Techiman South, and Accra, following the presidential election.
According to the group, these acts of aggression threaten the peace, stability, and unity of our beloved nation.
In a statement signed by Senyo Hosi, director of the group, it acknowledged the peaceful concession made by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the NPP in the spirit of democratic consolidation. However, it added, the post-election violence by the NDC hoodlums undermines the values of democracy, justice, and the rule of law that Ghanaians have collectively worked so hard to uphold.
The One Ghana Movement urges all citizens to remember that elections are not just a competition of ideas and policies but also a reflection of our shared commitment to a peaceful and united Ghana. Violence and destruction are antithetical to this vision.
The group has therefore called on the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, to take immediate and decisive action to address this unrest and call his thugs to order.
“As the next leader of our nation and a symbol of its unity, we urge him to Publicly and unequivocally condemn the violence being perpetrated in his name; Call on all Ghanaians to desist from any further acts of violence, vandalism, and lawlessness; and Assure the public that he will work with the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to ensure that perpetrators of these criminal acts are held accountable according to the law, without fear or favor, and irrespective of their political affiliation.
The group has also called on H.E. the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to direct the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly and impartially to restore order, protect lives and property in the affected communities, and commence arrests and prosecutions of perpetrators.
The One Ghana Movement reaffirms its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and development. We urge all Ghanaians to channel their energies toward building a prosperous nation where democratic principles are respected and upheld.
As a nation, we have overcome challenges before, and we are confident that together, we can navigate these trying times and emerge even stronger. Let us rise above division and hatred to embrace the spirit of togetherness that defines us as Ghanaians.
