The Iustum Center for Democracy and Governance (ICEDEG Africa LBG) participated in the 9th Ghana Business Standard Awards, with the organisation using the occasion to reinforce calls for businesses to place consumer welfare and customer satisfaction at the centre of their operations.
ICEDEG Africa was represented at the event by the Chairman of its Advisory Council, Nana Kwasi Asuman-Frimpong, and its Executive Secretary, Ellen Ofosu Asieduaa.
The awards were held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra on Saturday, September 26, 2026, to recognise organisations and business leaders demonstrating high business standards and contributing to sustainable growth in Ghana. The awards assess businesses on criteria including quality, innovation, customer loyalty, business resilience and corporate responsibility. brochure-Ghana Business awards
Consumers Must Be at Heart of Business
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the event, Mr Asuman-Frimpong, a consumer rights advocate, described a message delivered by the main speaker, Kenneth Kwamina Thompson, as timely, particularly as businesses enter the final quarter of the year.
Mr Thompson urged businesses to place a premium on customer satisfaction, stressing that customers may forgive a business for being small but will not forgive poor treatment.
Mr Asuman-Frimpong said the final quarter traditionally comes with increased commercial activity as businesses and consumers prepare for the Christmas season, making the treatment and protection of consumers particularly important.
He cautioned that increased business activity could also create conditions in which some businesses may abuse or disrespect consumers.
According to him, businesses that pay critical attention to Mr Thompson’s message stand to benefit beyond the immediate commercial season.
“Putting consumers at the heart of the business does not only improve the business. It builds trust and creates dedicated customers and consumers whose loyalty can survive for years,” he said.
He therefore urged businesses to see good consumer treatment not merely as a customer-service obligation but as an investment in their long-term reputation and sustainability.
Honours
In all, 21 companies and three individuals were honoured at the event, cutting across banking, insurance, healthcare, engineering, real estate, technology, construction and other sectors.
The three individuals recognised were Dr Kofi Addo-Agyekum, CEO of Kofikrom Pharmacy Limited; Samuel Bonsu Sekyere, CEO of Atwima Kwanwoma Community Bank PLC; and Kwasi Ameyaw, CEO of Asawinso Community Bank PLC.
The Ghana Business Standard Awards seek to encourage the adoption and improvement of standard business processes, services and products while recognising organisations and individuals demonstrating excellence and responsible business practices.
