The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced November 1 to 10, 2026, as the period for prospective parliamentary candidates to express interest in contesting on the party’s ticket, with a GH¢5,000 application fee and mandatory vetting requirements.
The party has also warned aspirants, including incumbent Members of Parliament, that submitting an expression of interest does not authorise them to begin campaigning, as the existing suspension of campaign activities remains in force.
NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong announced the directives during a press briefing outlining the party’s parliamentary candidate selection process.
According to him, interested persons must complete the prescribed expression-of-interest form through the party’s official online portal, ppc.nppghana.org, between November 1 and November 10.
The application process requires prospective candidates to pay GH¢5,000 before proceeding to subsequent stages of the selection exercise.
Incumbent MPs Not Exempted
Mr Kodua Frimpong emphasised that all prospective parliamentary candidates, including sitting NPP Members of Parliament seeking another term, must comply with the established procedures.
He explained that applicants would undergo vetting and screening to determine their eligibility in accordance with the party’s requirements.
The directive means incumbent MPs will not receive automatic exemptions from the application and screening process.
The party maintains that the uniform requirements are intended to promote fairness, transparency and equal opportunity among prospective candidates.
Campaign Ban Remains in Force
The NPP General Secretary further cautioned aspirants against interpreting the opening of the expression-of-interest process as permission to commence political campaigns.
He stressed that the party’s earlier directive suspending campaign activities remains strictly in force until official clearance is granted.
Consequently, prospective candidates are expected to limit their activities to the authorised application and screening procedures while awaiting further directives from the party’s leadership.
The restriction forms part of efforts to maintain discipline and ensure an orderly parliamentary candidate selection process.
Capacity-Building Workshops
As part of preparations for the selection exercise, the NPP will organise capacity-building workshops for prospective parliamentary candidates in December 2026.
The workshops will be held across three designated zones — Northern, Middle and Southern — to prepare aspirants for the party’s requirements and expectations.
The initiative forms part of the party’s structured approach to managing the parliamentary candidate selection process and ensuring that interested persons understand the applicable guidelines.
Mr Kodua Frimpong reiterated the need for strict compliance with all directives, stressing that the party was committed to maintaining a transparent, disciplined and level playing field for prospective candidates.
The announcement formally sets in motion the initial stage of the NPP’s parliamentary candidate selection process, although dates for the vetting exercise and subsequent stages have not yet been specified.
