In the annals of academic history, milestones are often celebrated with a sense of accomplishment and pride. Today, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Methodist College of Education (METCOE) Akyem Akyem Asene-Aboabo/Oda , as it marks its illustrious 10th anniversary.
A decade of unwavering commitment to education and nurturing the minds of future leaders deserves a resounding “Hip Hip Hip Hurray.”

Personal Experience
My personal journey with this esteemed institution began in 2011 when I secured admission to pursue a Diploma in Education. At that time, the Methodist College of Education stood as a private institution, a beacon of hope for those seeking quality education in the field of teaching.
This significant juncture in my life was the result of persistent efforts after facing setbacks in gaining admission to other institutions such as Komenda College of Education, SDA College of Education, and the KATH Nursing & Midwifery Training College.

Setback
However, the road to academic fulfillment was not without its challenges. Shortly after receiving the much-awaited admission, a disheartening call summoned me to the school with the unfortunate news that the institution could not commence its academic activities due to accreditation issues.
The prospect of deferring my dreams for another year loomed large, compounded by the financial strain of raising the admission fee.

Resolve
In the face of adversity, I resolved to take matters into my own hands, aspiring to contribute in my small way to the resolution of the accreditation predicament. Initiating a petition, I distributed it to influential individuals, including the then Eastern Regional Minister, Dr. Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, the Regional Directorate of Education, the Methodist Education Unit, Regional, Municipal, among others.

My media friends were extremely helpful, particularly Michael Akrofi, a figure whose assistance proved instrumental. Through his efforts, an interview with Peace FM was secured, shedding light on the challenges faced by the Methodist College of Education.

A turning point in this journey occurred when the Eastern Regional Minister, Dr. Apea Kubi, recognized the gravity of the situation and invited me to a meeting regarding the petition. His sage advice and assurances to collaborate with the school in overcoming its accreditation hurdles provided a glimmer of hope. The subsequent promise to liaise with the institution demonstrated a commitment to the broader cause of education and its transformative power.

Opportunity
Despite the initial setback, the following year brought a new opportunity. I secured admission to the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), and embarked on the journey to acquire the necessary fees I had paid to METCOE, which they generously refunded to me. This marked a pivotal moment, redirecting my educational path while reaffirming the importance of perseverance in the pursuit of knowledge.
In 2015, then as a student of UEW, I returned to the Methodist College of Education for my academic internship—an experience that showcased the resilience and adaptability of the institution.

It was evident, whiles there, that the dedication to providing quality education remained unwavering, creating a conducive environment for students to thrive and grow.
As we celebrate the Methodist College of Education, Akyem Oda Aboabo/Asene, on its 10th anniversary, let us reflect on the journey, acknowledging the challenges overcome and the triumphs achieved.

May this institution continue to be a beacon of educational excellence, shaping the minds of generations to come. Here’s to another decade of impact and growth, ensuring that the light of knowledge continues to shine brightly.
