Popular Ghanaian actor Alex Kofi Adu-Mensah has launched a campaign for the re-election of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the December 7 general election.

Dubbed “Agya Koo Agenda 57”, the campaign is aimed at helping to secure at least 57 per cent of the popular votes for the President.

Agya Koo, as the actor is popularly known, together with his team of actors, hope to ensure that overwhelming majority of Ghanaians, especially first time voters, are well ‘conscientized’ on the need to vote to retain the NPP government.

The project also seeks to identify floating voters as well as those who do not have interest in voting to come out in their numbers to vote for the NPP.

The “Agya Koo Agenda 57” project was first launched in September 2016 by Matilda Asare, another veteran actor, as the national coordinator. It was one of the major crowd-pulling campaign machinery which helped the then opposition NPP.

According to Agya Koo, his decision at that time (2016) to campaign for Nana Akufo-Addo was influenced by the fact that “many Ghanaians then faced unprecedented economic hardships, which consequently led to job losses and high unemployment rate, poor healthcare provision and cut-throat utility bills,” among other things.

However, within less than four years as President of Ghana, Agya Koo believes President Akufo-Addo “has done more than enough to warrant my energy to go and campaign for him again with pride”

Launching the project last Friday, he praised the President for not dissapointing the people who campaigned for him during the 2016 general elections.

Honouring promises

Agya Koo noted that the President has stood truthful to his words by honouring most of the promises he made ahead of the 2016 election.

“I don’t hate the National Democratic Congress for anything, but truth be told, I love to campaign for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his NPP for their transparency and truthfulness to everything.

“I believe that his good works will make a way for him in heaven. And this time round, ‘Agya Koo Agenda 57% for Nana Addo’ will push the NPP’s votes up,” the veteran actor stressed.

He is particularly happy at the sense of urgency the President attached to the implementation of the Free Senior High School policy, a policy he describes as “timely and sensible”.

“Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given our children light and this light has to be brought out for all to see. Education is key and I personally thank him for this well-fulfilled promise. This should tell us that another term is very necessary for him to do more for the youth and us all,” the veteran acted stated.
