Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Associate Professor Ransford Gyampo has slammed the Akufo Addo government over what he says is its poor manner of communicating to the public.

According to him, information flow has been very poor since this administration assumed power in 2017 because the government loves to keep things to its chest, a situation he said doesn’t ensure transparent governance.

The Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana made the comment on Joy FM’s News File show while discussing President Akufo Addo’s appointment of the embattled formers boss of the Ghana Maritime Authority Mr. Kwame Owusu as the Board Chairman of Ghana Revenue Authority.

Mr. Owusu who was in the news months ago for allegedly installing 13 air conditioners in his house was accused of financial misappropriation at the company, including spending a million cedis to renovate his official residence.

The government subsequently instituted a probe into the matter, but the outcome or report has not been made public.

Mr. Owusu, however, resigned having attained the age of 65 years.

However, Prof. Gyampo believes that even before Mr. Owusu’s new appointment, considering the public interest in the matter, the government ought to have done what is right by making public the report of the probe on him which will show that he has been cleared or not of the allegations against him.

“The problem with this regime is that they don’t know how to communicate and they don’t put out information. And so we don’t know, we are all operating in a kind of opacity, there’s freedom of information and all that buy they are always keeping things to their chest. So it may well be possible that the President knows something about this man that we all don’t know and that’s the reason why he’s still bringing him up onboard.”
