Dr Frank Amoakohene

Aspiring National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary in the Ashanti Region, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has assured members of the opposition party of his resolve to ‘break the monopoly’ of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the region.

He has therefore asked party supporters to have faith in him and give him the opportunity to serve as Regional Secretary.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Dr Amoakohene, who was the party’s 2020 Parliamentary Candidate in Ashanti Mampong, said he has the experience and the strategies to turn the fortunes of the NDC around in the Ashanti Region.

The Ashanti region is regarded a ‘world bank’ of the NPP. Historically, the party wins between 72 and 77 per cent of votes from the region while the NDC gets between 22 and 27 per cent.

Election pundits believe a voter percentage of 30 per cent in the Ashanti Region for the NDC could spell electoral doom for the governing party.

But Dr Amoakohene maintains that his vision is to go beyond the projected 30 per cent, suggested by some election analysts.

Competence

According to the former President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), he has the competence and the strategy to ‘deflate’ the NPP dominance in the region.

“I have come to your constituencies. I have been to 47 constituencies out of the 48 in the region and I have sold my policies and messages to you. You know my competencies. If any other candidate comes to you, let the person share his message with you. Let him share his strategies and decide based on the competence of the person,” he pleaded with NDC delegates.

The NDC will hold its regional elections between today, November 11 and Sunday, November 13, 2022. The National Congress is expected to be held on December 17, 2022.
