Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku-Prempeh is calling for the immediate arrest of ousted Vice Chancellor, Professor Mawutor Avoke who attempted to take over the management of the university.
According to him, the conduct of the former Vice Chancellor and five others amounted to a coup d’tat.
The action of Prof Avoke followed his clearance by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after he was indicted for abusing his office.
At a press conference on Tuesday July 23, 2019, he explained that, EOCO after investigations cleared him off any procurement breaches making him [Avoke] the legitimate Vice Chancellor of the University.
But, the Education Minister on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme said Prof Avoke’s conduct was illegal.
He explained that, the former Vice Chancellor was dismissed by a legitimate constituted Council of the university not EOCO, therefore he cannot re-instate himself.
“The police must arrest Prof Avoke and the others for trespassing. I don’t know why they are still walking free,” the Minister fumed.
Dr Opoku-Prempeh urged the aggrieved parties, led by Prof Avoke, to seek legal redress to get their issues resolved.
