Mrs Avorgah, with some of the children, displays her award

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Christ Home of Hope Destitute Children Home at Amrahia, Theresa Kafui Avorgah, has achieved recognition as the Best Agro Processor of the Year in the Adentan Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

Mrs. Avorgah, who is also a social worker, clinched the award at this year’s National Farmers’ Day ceremony held on December 1, 2023.

She earned the distinction for her outstanding work in processing raw materials into finished organic drinks and edibles, including asana, sobolo, brukutu, millet and maize drinks, and agbeli kaklo.

She showcased some of these products at Amanfrom Park during the Adentan Municipality’s Farmers’ Day celebration. Ahead of the celebration, officials from the Adentan Municipal Assembly and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture visited her processing facility to familiarize themselves with the quality of her work.

As a token of appreciation, she received items such as a fridge, farm inputs, and a certificate.

Support

In an interview with the Daily Statesman over the weekend, Mrs. Avorgah appealed to the government, individuals, and philanthropic organizations for support in expanding her agro-processing business. She highlighted that her current production scale is small, which is aimed at supporting the destitute children under her care, adding with additional support, she envisions expanding into a factory, not only to increase income for supporting the destitute but also to create employment opportunities.

Mrs. Avorgah also took the opportunity to appeal for support for the destitute home, emphasizing the financial challenges associated with running such establishments.

She urged people to feel obliged to support these children, emphasizing the importance of such assistance in alleviating their loneliness and grief.
