Some workers of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) have appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the board of the company not to appoint someone who is within the establishment to replace their immediate past managing director, Asante Berko.

According to the staff, a managing director from within the establishment will collapse TOR.

The call follows the resignation of Mr Berko as the MD of the company. President Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation of Mr Berko, after charges from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), of the United States of America, of breaching the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) against him came to light.

The workers described Mr Berko as “highly competent, humble and a team player”, and expressed regrets at the “unfortunate development” that has led to his exit.

“With his short working interaction with us, he had really convinced many of us that he was the future of TOR,” one influential worker said.

They are therefore pleading with the President and the board to consider someone who is equally competent as Mr Berko.
