The Public Utility and Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced a 5.94 per cent and 2.22 per cent upward adjustment in electricity and water tariffs respectively for the fourth quarter of 2019.

 

The adjustments according to the PURC are hinged on some eight factors including Ghana Cedi-US Dollar Exchange Rate, Inflation, Price of Crude Oil and Natural Gas and Fuel Mix (Crude Oil, Natural Gas, and Distillate Fuel).

Other factors are Generation Mix (Hydro and Thermal), Power Purchase Cost, Demand Forecast and Electricity Cost (A major cost component in water production).

 

In a press statement announcing the adjustment and signed by MRS. MAMI DUFIE OFORI EXECUTIVE SECRETARY of the Commission, it stated that the Commission is committed to embark on effective tariff monitoring programme aimed at providing the end user improved quality of service.

 

The upward adjustment takes effect from tomorrow 1st of October 2019.
