The Eastern Regional health directorate has appealed for support to establish a 100-bed coronavirus treatment centre at the Regional hospital in Koforidua.
The centre, according to the directorate, will serve as a facility where coronavirus positive cases can be treated. The call followed the confirmation of 25 cases in the region.
A statement issued by the Regional Health Director, Dr Alberta Adjabeng Biritwum Nyarko, noted that inadequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) remains a challenge in the region.
“We are imploring individuals and groups, corporate bodies, etc to support this fight against COVID-19 by donating in cash or kind such as PPEs, ventilators, beds, mattresses, infusion pumps, fuel, sanitizers, etc to the regional health directorate to support the work our teams are doing across the region and also to support the setting up of a 100-bed COVID-19 treatment centre in the region,” the statement added.
Acknowledgement of support
The statement also acknowledged the support being provided by Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) as well as Members of Parliament (MPs) in the region.
“Many districts have received donations of various logistics from their MDCEs and MPs, as well as other benevolent organisations and these have been helpful. Communication materials are also being distributed to all health facilities across the region, including private facilities,” the statement revealed.
New confirmed cases
Meanwhile, the region has recorded 10 more COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases to 25.
Twenty four of the cases are in the Lower Manya Krobo while one is in the Fanteakwa North District
A statement from the Regional Health Directorate said “all confirmed cases are in stable condition and responding to treatment”.
