Jeff Konadu Addo, NPP E/R Sec

The Eastern Regional Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party, Jeff Konadu Addo, has stated that the party is satisfied with the outcome of the ongoing voters’ registration so far. The Electoral Commission (EC) began the nationwide voters’ registration exercise on Tuesday, June 30.

The first phase of the exercise, which is being done in phases, ended last week.

Some 215,616 people had, as at the end of the first phase, registered from the region.

Mr Konadu, who has been monitoring the exercise in the Eastern Region, yesterday told the Daily Statesman that the measures put in place by the election management body have so far yielded positive results in the region.

Safety protocols

According to Mr Konadu, unlike report from other parts of the country, registrants in the Eastern Region have so far been observing the various safety protocols announced by the World Health Organisation, the Ghana Health Service and the EC.

“I was at New Abirem yesterday (Tuesday), and just crossed the river to Afram Plains today (yesterday): everything is on course smoothly. Observance of the safety protocols have been top-notch. You know, the EC has put in place a lot of safety measures and we, as a party, we have also taken it upon ourselves to educate our supporters and these are yielding very positive results,” he stated.

“We understand the times that we are in. It is not the intention of anybody, the EC or the government, to spread coronavirus with this registration. We shall therefore continue to help monitor the exercise to ensure that the people are safe.

“This year’s monitoring is different. The party is known only to have been monitoring such exercise to ensure that the right people register, but this year we equally have a responsibility to also monitor to ensure that registrants are observing the various safety protocols. We cannot put EC officials or our agents in danger and so we will continue to ensure that the people adhere to the protocols,” he added.
