Intelligence gathered by this online in the Amansie central district of the Ashanti region has established that most communities that finds themselves within the Bekwai Stool Lands have been taken over by illegal mining ( Galamsey) and sand winning activities which has resulted in total devastation to the environment because most of the pits have been left uncovered.
This paper ‘s visit to communities such as Aboabo, Afoako Patasi , Afoako and others that falls under the Akwamu Division of the Bekwai Traditional Council, where the Galamseyers have created mess to the environment with their activities, residents and indigenous people who interacted with this paper disclosed that , Nana Kwabena Amaning Kwarteng, popularly called TAGOR, the Akwanserehene for the Akwamu Division of the Bekwai Traditional Council has been the brain behind the coming of the illegal miners mainly the Chinese nationals and other foreigners.
The residents alleged that , the Akwanserehene of the Bekwai Traditional Council , Nana Ntiamoah is very much aware of the operational activities of these Galamseyers and the sand winners because he also receives his share of the huge amount of Good Will money taken by his Ankwanserehene , Nana Kwabena Amaning Kwarteng, alias Tagor .
The residents and the indigenous people further disclosed to this paper that , the authorities of the Amansie central district led by the District chief executive, Hon Michael Donkor who also chairs DISEC meeting is very much aware of the illegal mining and sand winning activities that are alarming in the Amansie central district but has not taking any action on that which is very worrying.
In a related development Galamsey activities are also looming in communities such as Kwame Tanokrom, Apeboaso, Ebunso, Numereso, Kente, Hiayeya, Fehiakobo amongst other communities within the Amansie central district which is under the watch of the Twafo Division of the Bekwai Stool Lands.
The Twafohene of the Bekwai Traditional Council, Nana Boapem Perko II who together with his chief linguist , Kyeame Nsuapem Ababio are charging huge sums of monies as Good Will from these Galamseyers who have caused total devastation to the environment.
This paper tried several efforts to speak with the Paramount chief of the Bekwai Traditional Council, Nana Osei Kwadwo on the issue of the illegal mining and sand winning activities within the communities mentioned to speak to him but our efforts proved very futile and abortive but that of the the Akwanserehene of the Akwamu Division of the Bekwai Traditional Council and the Twafohene were going through via phone calls but no answer by any of them .
