The Ghana Civil Service has officially launched its 2025 Civil Service Week Celebration and 2024 Awards Ceremony at the CLOGSAG Auditorium in Accra. The event was graced by the Head of the Civil Service, Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh, and spotlighted the theme: “Adapting to Automation, Artificial Intelligence and E-Governance: The Civil Service in Contemporary Ghana.”

The theme emphasizes the need for the Civil Service to adapt to digital transformation, leveraging tools like automation, AI, and e-governance to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Dr. Aggrey-Darkoh stressed that digital transformation is crucial for Ghana’s development journey, and the Civil Service must remain responsive, innovative, and accountable in the face of technological advancements.

The Head of Service highlighted numerous reforms designed to modernize operations, enhance transparency, and improve citizen satisfaction. These include the digitalization of health logistics through the Ghana Integrated Logistics Management Information System (GhiLMIS), benefiting over 1,500 medical facilities, structured digital handover systems for seamless governance, especially during the 2024 election year, and the Ghana Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, aimed at building an inclusive digital ecosystem and positioning Ghana as a regional digital hub.

Additionally, the Civil Service has implemented financial sector reforms, including AI-supported anti-money laundering efforts and legislative digitization, as well as the digitization of passport services with new chip-embedded passports and enhanced AI-based fraud detection systems.

Celebrating Civil Servants

The Civil Service Week will run from July 16 to 25, featuring various activities, including a float and press launch, clean-up exercise, thanksgiving service and semi-final football matches, policy fairs, exhibitions, cultural events, health screenings, public lectures, and competitions. The 2024 Civil Service Awards Ceremony will take place on July 25 at the Alisa Hotel, with Hon. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, as Guest of Honour.

A Vision Forward

Dr. Aggrey-Darkoh emphasized that embracing digital transformation is not optional but essential for Ghana’s development journey. He urged civil servants to leverage the week-long celebration to reflect on progress, exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships, and recommit to a service culture anchored in innovation, accountability, and excellence.
