Ghanaian healthcare solutions provider ADB Ghana Medical Systems Group Limited is leading the hospital engineering and infrastructure component of the $100 million Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Comprehensive Cancer Centre of Excellence being developed at Kwaso in the Ashanti Region.

The project represents one of the company’s major healthcare infrastructure undertakings as it expands beyond medical equipment supply into hospital engineering, construction, maintenance and project management. ADB -Otumfuor 2

The Cancer Centre, named in honour of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is being developed on 52 acres of land in the Ejisu Municipality as a five-year initiative.

It is being funded by Breast Care International, Peace and Love Hospitals, Global Health Catalyst and the University of Pennsylvania, with approximately $10 million earmarked for the first phase.

Boost for Cancer Care

Phase One is expected to comprise a radiotherapy suite, research wing, artificial intelligence hub, education centre and community outreach facilities.

When completed, the centre is expected to provide specialised facilities including chemotherapy and brachytherapy suites, CT scan simulators, admission wards, laboratories, surgical theatres and recovery wards. It is also projected to create more than 250 jobs.

President of Breast Care International and Founding Director of the Centre, Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai, said the project is intended to improve access to advanced cancer treatment while positioning Ghana as a destination for specialised healthcare.

“The Centre will also be the hub for medical tourism and stop the movement of cancer patients from Africa to other continents for treatments,” she said.

Expanding Local Healthcare Expertise

ADB Ghana Medical Systems was established in 2006 by Adann Benjamin Diaz and has since expanded its operations to provide services to hospitals, government institutions, non-governmental organisations and other organisations within the health sector.

Mr Diaz said the company’s ambition is to develop Ghanaian expertise capable of providing comprehensive healthcare solutions rather than limiting its operations to supplying medical equipment.

“Our ambition is not simply to supply medical equipment. We want to build a company that provides solutions, develops expertise and contributes meaningfully to the infrastructure required for quality healthcare delivery in Ghana and across Africa,” he said.

The company is also involved in developing a specialist cardiology facility at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, aimed at bringing advanced cardiac services closer to patients in the Ashanti Region and neighbouring areas.

Mr Diaz said the company ultimately intends to expand into other West African markets while building the expertise and partnerships required to deliver healthcare infrastructure to international standards.
