Ghana’s national Under-15 boys’ team have suffered a heartbreaking exit from the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Azerbaijan after losing 7-6 on penalties to Paraguay in the quarter-finals on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
The young Ghanaian side fought to a 2-2 draw in regulation time but failed to prevail in the ensuing shootout, bringing their impressive seven-match winning streak to an end.
Paraguay converted seven penalties against Ghana’s six to advance to the semi-finals, denying the West African side a place among the competition’s final four teams.
The defeat came after Ghana had established themselves as one of the tournament’s impressive performers, winning all five group matches before overcoming South Korea and Mexico in the knockout stages.
Impressive Run Ends in Quarter-Finals
Ghana entered the quarter-final encounter with an unbeaten record, having topped Group W with maximum points.
The team defeated South Korea 2-1 in their first knockout match before producing an emphatic 5-2 victory over Mexico to reach the last eight.
Those results extended Ghana’s winning streak to seven matches and raised expectations of a possible semi-final appearance.
Against Paraguay, however, the Ghanaian youngsters faced a determined opponent in a closely contested encounter.
Both teams scored twice during regulation time, forcing the contest into a penalty shootout.
Despite Ghana’s spirited performance, Paraguay proved more clinical from the spot, converting seven attempts to secure victory.
