Ahead of the 2023 Green Ghana tree planting exercise, the Green Ghana Planning and Organising Committee, led by it’s Chairman, Hon. Benito Owusu-Bio who is also the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources responsible for Lands and Forestry has on Monday, 5th June, 2023 embarked on a day’s tour to appreciate some selected organisations that sponsored Green Ghana Project in the years 2021 and 2022.
In the company of the the Deputy CEO of the Forestry Commission, Mr. Sulemana Nyadia, the Fund Raising head, Dr. Antionette Tsiboe-Darko, the Technical Director for Forestry at the Ministry Mr. Joseph Osiakwan and other officials from the Ministry, the Deputy Minister visited Access Bank, Ghana Oil Company (Goil), Japan Motors, and the Ghana Chamber of Mines respectively.
Presenting the Green Ghana branded plagues to each institution on behalf of the Sector Minister, Hon. Benito Owusu-Bio expressed government’s and the Ministry’s profound gratitude to them for sponsoring such government’s aggressive afforestation agenda while beckoning them to come on board again and support for a successful tree planting exercise this year.
“We could not have had a successful and impactful Green Ghana without your funds and support but like Oliver twist, we will always ask for more since this project is a continued event which will occur annually” He said.
The Deputy Minister also noted that the plagues presented to these organisations are to commemorate their efforts and contribution towards the Green Ghana Day and also to empower them to do more for the Ghana and it’s environment.
Speaking in an interview with the media after the tour, Hon. Benito urged all Ghanaians to join the Ministry on June 9th, 2023 to plant tree seedlings and also admonished all and sundry not to only plant but nurture every seedling planted into maturity, “especially those in the cities and towns” He added.
Dr. Antionette Tsiboe-Darko, the Head of the fund raising team also applauded the organisations and hoped that the committee’s guesture will encourage other organisations that have not yet donated towards the Green Ghana day to follow in the steps of those being honoured.
The receiving institutions also warmly welcomed the Deputy Minister and his team and thanked him for the honour done them while pledging to continue to partner government on Green Ghana Project to contribute to global warming and making the world a better place for all.
They also noted that the Green Ghana project is a good and laudable idea which they needs to be sponsored and supported to help push government’s agenda of restoring Ghana’s lost cover and bring back the beauty of the country.
The Committee will continue with this appreciation tour and the distribution of plagues to other organisations within the week.
