Deputy National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hajia Safia Mohammed, has concluded a campaign tour of the Upper West Region as she intensifies her bid to become the party’s next National Women’s Organiser.
The tour formed part of her engagements with delegates ahead of the NPP’s National Annual Delegates Conference and National Officers’ Elections scheduled for October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Hajia Safia is in a two-person contest with former Awutu Senya East MP Mavis Hawa Koomson for the National Women’s Organiser position. Hajia Safia occupies the number one position on the ballot, while Mrs Koomson is number two.
Engagement With Delegates
During her Upper West campaign, Hajia Safia met female delegates and other party members, using the engagements to outline her plans for the NPP Women’s Wing and listen to concerns from the grassroots.
Her campaign focused on empowerment, inclusion and expanding opportunities for women within the party, as well as strengthening the Women’s Wing as an effective mobilisation structure.
Rather than relying solely on formal campaign speeches, she engaged delegates in conversations about their expectations of the party’s women’s leadership and the challenges confronting women at the grassroots.
Her campaign team described the reception in the region as encouraging and said the interactions had strengthened its confidence as the October 3 election approaches.
Focus on Grassroots
Hajia Safia has placed grassroots engagement at the centre of her campaign, presenting herself as a candidate seeking to strengthen the relationship between the national leadership of the Women’s Wing and women at the constituency and polling station levels.
The Upper West tour adds to a series of engagements as candidates make their final push for support ahead of the national elections.
Under the arrangements announced by the NPP’s National Officers Elections Committee, all eligible female delegates will participate in the election of the National Women’s Organiser in addition to voting in the other national contests for which they are eligible.
The October 3 conference will elect national officers to steer the affairs of the party, with the Electoral Commission expected to conduct the elections under the supervision of the NPP’s National Officers Elections Committee.
