An all music show dubbed “Highlife time” is set to hit the TV screens very soon. The show will be telecasted by CTV starting from March 15. The programme that will be shown every Sunday will delve into the personal lives of some highlife artistes in the country. It will also seek to unravel the inspiration behind their choice of songs and their views about the music industry.

About High life

Highlife music, one of the oldest music genres in Africa, originated from Ghana. The genre is a blend of traditional rhythms and melodies with European musicals that compose good tunes. The genre became popular in Africa and beyond due to the great talents exhibited by some early artistes like the Ashanti Blues, E.T Mensah, known as the king of highlife, Nana Amapadu, J. A. Adofo, George Darko, Rex Omar, Akosua Agyapong among others.

What to expect

Award winning DJ, Eric Owusu Gyimah, two time Best highlife DJ and a broadcast journalist with Accra FM shall be the host of the programme. Oyokodehye Kofi as the DJ is known in the Showbiz industry disclosed that the show will discuss the impact of highlife music on the society and the emergence of the new genres of music like hiplife, afropop among others.
“We will also show their musical videos and know the reasons for the concept of the videos as well. This is a show for all the lovers of highlife music and upcoming musicians who want to go into the genre,” Oyokodehye said.
“Our old highlife musicians have done so much for our music industry. There is, therefore, the need to celebrate their work and give much attention to the influence of highlife music on entertainment industry,” he added.
