The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama is expected to later today, October 7, 2020, submit his nomination forms for the 2020 presidential elections.
In a Facebook post, Mr. Mahama announced that the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia will submit the forms on his behalf.
Mahama is currently on a campaign tour of the Western North Region, while his running mate, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, is also in the Eastern Region.
President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday submitted his nomination form in-person and in the company of the Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia and a host of other party bigwigs.
Others who submitted their forms on Tuesday include Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly called Osofo Kyiri Abosom on the ticket of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) as well as two-time independent presidential candidate, Jacob Osei Yeboah.
Mr. Yeboah disclosed to the media that he is going into the December polls as a running mate to one Alfred Kwame Walker, a yet-to-be unveiled candidate.
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and the People’s Action Party are expected to submit their forms today.
EC opens nominations for 2020 polls
The Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday, September 14, 2020, opened nominations for the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections.
In response to COVID-19 protocols, however, the Commission made the nomination forms available to all political parties as well as independent candidates on its website.
The EC pegged the filing fee for presidential candidates at GHS100,000 and GHS10,000 for parliamentary candidates.
