The sad story of the four kidnapped Takoradi girls is still trending, in spite of the death sentence imposed on the convicts by the court a fortnight ago.
Families of the girls are requesting that the convicts, Samuel Odotek Wills and John Oje, be brought to Diabene and Nkroful, where the kidnapping took place and killed in broad daylight before the residents.
They strongly believe this will serve as a deterrence to other kidnappers hiding in the communities. Again, they said killing them before the people will erase any suspicion of government ‘smuggling’ them back to their home country, Nigeria.
Foul play
Michael Hayford, spokesperson for the families, made this request in an interview with journalists on Monday.
He said the grieving families still suspect foul play on the part of the court and government, and will only be at peace after seeing with their naked eyes the execution of the convicts.
A Takoradi-based legal practitioner and member of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Phillip Fiifi Buckman, however, says there is no way that this request can be granted.
He said this is because there are procedures and processes governing sentences, whether death or imprisonment.
DNA
Meanwhile, at a press conference earlier the same day, three of the families said they still do not believe the girls have been murdered, and urged the police to produce them.
They wondered why copies of DNA reports on the remains purported to be that of the girls have still not been given them.
The families also questioned why these mortal remains of the girls spotted in Accra should be found all the way in a manhole in Takoradi, with one of them wearing a new underwear.
“Were they killed in Accra and their bodies transported and dumped at Diabene? We don’t believe this cock and bull story so the police should come again,” they said.
