The Kumasi China City Mall is set to be demolished following a devastating fire, raising urgent questions about safety oversight and economic impacts for dozens of traders.

The sprawling Mall on the Santasi–Kumasi corridor will be pulled down, according to order by local authorities, after a fire severely damaged parts of the building and made the structure unsafe for continued use.

The blaze, which ravaged sections of the shopping centre earlier this week, left large portions of the mall’s interior gutted. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. Following a structural safety assessment, officials concluded that the building no longer meets the required standards and must be pulled down in the interest of public safety and the welfare of commercial tenants.
