US-based Ghanaian law professor, Prof. Stephen Kwaku Asare has asked the Chief Justice of Ghana Justice Sophia Akuffo to stop thinking that “she is the Chief Legal Educator” in the country.
Mass Production of Lawyer
The Chief Justice of the Republic of Ghana, Justice Sophia Akuffo, has signaled that as long as she supervises legal education in Ghana and the Judicial System, she will not allow the mass production of lawyers in the country.
According to her, the mass production of lawyers poses a great danger to the people of the country who would require the services of a good lawyer in their life time.

Addressing the Bench, Bar and Faculty Conference at the Labadi Beach Hotel on the theme “the Changing Landscape in the Law – the Judge, the Lawyer and the Academic”, the Chief Justice said any attempt to allow the production of lawyers without efficient control, checks and balances will be rejected irrespective of who is advocating for it.

But taking to social networking site, Facebook, Prof. Azar as the US based law professor is affectionately called said “Power is tricking the Chief Justice into thinking she is the Chief Legal Educator” in the country.

Prof. Azar has been at the forefront of the struggle for changes in legal Education in the country. He has over the years expressed his outrage over the mass Failure of the Ghana Bar exams by potential lawyers.

According to him, the chief Justice is just grabbing underserved powers and has called on “the Legal academy to assert itself and reject her power grab.”
