The secretary to the Manya Krobo Covid-19 Emergency Trust Fund, Godfred Offoe Caesar, has appealed to the general public to support the fund established by the Manya Krobo traditional council to fight the novel coronavirus.

He said the indigenes of Manya Krobo, living both home and abroad, need to help combat the pandemic since lower Manya Krobo municipality is fast becoming the epicenter of the disease in the Eastern region.

The secretary was speaking exclusively to the Daily Statesman when he made the appeal.

He indicated that they have received some donations but need support to do more.

“The fund, aimed at protecting lives in this difficult times, has so far generated over GH¢300, 000. It is our hope that we can raise some more to support the fight,” he said.

Key areas

The secretary mentioned that the committee has identified some three key areas which need much attention. These are the health sector, the security sector and the socio-economic needs of the people in the area.

He also disclosed that the social welfare departments in both Lower Manya Krobo and Upper Manya Krobo have been involved to help identify the needs of the vulnerable within these areas for support, adding that presentation of some items will commence in the coming week.

“We have put measures in place. The money will be distributed equally and we will give the public accounts of any amount received and investment,” he said.

Fund

The Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional Area, Nene Sakite II, last month established the emergency Covid-19 fund with a seed capital of GHC50, 000. This is to help contain the spread of the pandemic in the traditional area.
The fund is to be used to support the vulnerable and people living with disabilities in the area to lessen the negative impact of the pandemic on them.

The seed capital was to enable the fund to commence business with immediate effect while waiting for other individuals and stakeholders to contribute their quota.
