Deputy Minister of Energy, William Owuriku Aidoo, unveils the plaque to commission the Faithkope D/A KG block

The VALCO Trust Fund on Tuesday handed over a Kindergarten school block to the Faithkope community, in the Ada East District of the Greater Accra Region.

The facility is part of 18 school structures constructed within three months by the Trust, with support from the Ministry of Energy, in various parts of the country. It is part of the efforts to end the phenomenon of schools under trees. The total number of facilities completed and those under construction is 50.

The newly built Faithkope D/A KG school block comprises two-unit classroom (KG 1 and KG 2), a canteen, modern washrooms for both male and female pupils as well as the headmistress, two polytanks connected to the facility, furniture for the children, both for the classrooms and the canteen.

It also has a tilled office for the headmistress, two shelves for the pupils, and a playground. The school is also fully connected to the national electricity grid. Same would be done for all the schools being built across the country.

The Acting Executive Director of Valco Trust Fund, Kelvin Kweku Yeboah, said the eight other completed facilities are situated in the Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Upper West, Oti, Volta, Upper East and North East regions. They are expected to be commissioned within the next two weeks. He said nine others would also be completed before the end of the year.

He further disclosed that the Fund, with support from the Minister of Energy, had been able to raise some additional funding for the construction of the second batch of 32 schools. “This means that within six months, the government of President Akufo-Addo would have built 50 schools for the people of Ghana”.

Benefit for all

Also speaking at the event on behalf of the Minister, a Deputy Minister of Energy, William Owuraku Aidoo, said the objective of the Fund is geared towards the advancement of education and science for the benefit of the people of Ghana.

According to him, since the establishment of the Fund, every sector in the country has benefited from it. “Most especially, in the education sector over the years, the Fund has been assisting the second cycle institutions with various educational facilities, including buses and books for several libraries, home science equipment, science laboratory equipment, among others,” he stated.
