The desperation of Michael Oquaye Jnr to unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Dome-Kwabena Constituency, Hon Adwoa Safo, in the impeding primaries of the NPP, is leading him to do a lot of unthinkable things to advance his cause even to the detriment of the party.
The latest in the series of his diabolic maneuverings is his attempt to alter the constituency album through the connivance of his henchman, the constituency secretary and two other members of the constituency parliamentary elections committee.
And when this diabolic move was vehemently resisted by the party delegates comprising constituency executives, electoral area coordinators and polling station executives at a meeting they were invited on Tuesday, 21st April, for this purpose, he [Michael Oquaye Jnr] inspired some thugs led by one Kwasi Akameni [his father’s driver] to visit mayhem on these executives for their non-cooperation.
They attacked the residence of the constituency chairman, Mr. Robert Osei Bonsu, at Haatso, where some of the executives had gathered and were pelting stones and other missiles at them.
In one of the videos which had gone viral on social media, which has also been reported by some traditional media, some of the attackers were heard saying that, Hon. Adwoa Safo as well as the Constituency Youth Organizer and other executives were in the house of the Chairman so they should go ahead and attack them. They also dared the police to come and arrest them; ostensibly because of the source of their authority.
However, the Kwabenya police, having had knowledge of the incidence stormed the scene and dispersed the attackers. And after giving them a hot chase, they drove into the residence of Prof Michael Oquaye whereupon the police were met by Michael Oquaye Jnr who informed the police that he sent them to the constituency chairman’s house to retrieve the constituency album after alleging that supporters of the MP had snatched the album from the constituency secretary and rushed into the chairman’s residence.
It is not clear whether the party will sanction Michael Oquaye Jnr because of the position his father wields in the NPP, even though his conduct has been most reprehensible and has accordingly brought the party’s name into disrepute.
From all indications, Hon. Adwoa Safo, the incumbent, appears to be enjoying an overwhelming support from, not only the Dome-Kwabenya constituency delegates of the party but also from her constituents in general because of her hard work and the many developmental projects she had undertaken in the constituency and beyond.
But Michael Oquaye Jnr, who is not satisfied with the juicy appointment that H.E. President Akufo-Addo gave him by making him Ghana’s High Commissioner to India, thinks he can unseat the indomitable Adwoa Safo, notwithstanding the fact that she had beaten him to pulp on two previous occasions in the party primaries.
After his latest attempt to tamper with the album has failed, it is not clear what next he would do, but as they always say; only time will tell.
