Former Mayor of Kumasi and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer hopeful, Kojo Bonsu, has conceded defeat to his contender, former President John Dramani Mahama in the ongoing NDC primaries.
Although voting has ended, counting of ballots and collation in the presidential race is still ongoing, with election officials expecting to conclude the exercise by 10 pm. However, John Mahama’s camp is already predicting a landslide victory with at least a 98% win in the election.
In a Facebook post, Kojo Bonsu stated that he has called John Mahama to congratulate him on his expected victory in the presidential primaries. He also reiterated his commitment to continue serving the NDC party regardless of the outcome of the election.
Kojo Bonsu was the only contender in the NDC presidential primary following former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffour’s withdrawal from the race on Friday, citing electoral irregularities.
Provisional results released so far indicate a one-sided contest, with John Mahama reportedly sweeping virtually every constituency vote. The NDC is yet to officially announce the polling results.
