Dr. Daniel Asiedu, a specialist at the Urology Department of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, has issued a public warning about the dangers of relying on traditional or herbal medicines to treat or prevent prostate cancer. He emphasized that no such treatments have been scientifically proven or approved for use.

Speaking at the launch of a Prostate Cancer Awareness Campaign in Accra, Dr. Asiedu expressed concern over the rising number of individuals selling herbal remedies on the streets, misleading the public with false claims. “They have PA systems with loud speakers, and anytime I hear them, I want to scream that they are lying. No herbal or traditional medicine has been identified or approved to cure or prevent prostate cancer,” he said.

He advised men, especially those experiencing urinary issues, to seek immediate medical help for early diagnosis and treatment. He also stressed the importance of regular prostate cancer screening, especially for African men, who are at a higher risk of developing the disease during their lifetime.

Dr. Asiedu’s caution comes amid growing misinformation about prostate cancer treatments, making his message vital for public health.

For accurate information and care, the public is encouraged to consult medical professionals.
