The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Eastern Region has debunked allegations made by the National Youth Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, that the governing party is using thugs to intimidate potential registrants in the region.

The NDC’s allegation, according to the NPP, “is a palpable falsehood” which should be rejected by all well-meaning Ghanaians.

The NDC Youth Organiser had alleged, last week, that some thugs, suspected to be members of the NPP and led by the Eastern Regional Chairman of the governing party, had beaten up some members of the NDC in the Akwatia constituency.

Mr Opare Addo had further condemned what he claimed was intimidation of potential registrants by the NPP at the Aketebor registration centre in the Upper Manya Krobo constituency.

The NDC had further alleged that the NPP was busing people from its strongholds to places such as the Afram Plains and the Krobo enclave.

Denial

However, in a statement signed by the NPP’s Regional Communications Director, David Prah, the party described the NDC youth organiser as “pathological liar”, and called on the public to disregard any statement that comes from him.

“It’s a shame that the NDC is resorting to lie and propaganda to cover their usual incompetence,” the NPP said.

Mr Prah stated that the NPP “need not to bus people outside to Afram Plains to register before winning that seat this time around, looking at the impeccable records of development and human centered policies carried out by the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”

“The people of Afram Plains and the entire Eastern Region are the living witnesses of the massive developmental projects going on and will vote overwhelmingly for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP parliamentary candidate. The only challenge of the NDC is that they as a party are ill-prepared for the voter registration exercise,” the statement noted.

The NPP noted that not a single untoward incident has happened in the region, as alleged by the NDC, saying the NPP is only mobilising its people to register and not intimidating people. Mr Prah added that the governing party will continue with arrangement until the exercise is over.
