The Ghana Police Service has announced that officers from the National Headquarters, will be embarking on a route march through some principal streets of the capital today, Monday September 21 2020.
This exercise according to the police is geared towards assuring the public of the readiness of the police to provide adequate security for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in some months to come.
A statement from the Public Affairs Directorate of the police,, signed by Superintendent of Police (SP) Shiella Kessie Abayie-Buckman, said “the march is one of the activities planned to assure the public of the commitment and readiness for the police to maintain law and order before, during and after the elections.”
“It shall also be used to display some police resources like ambulance, trained dogs, crime scene and armored vehicles, which shall be tactically deployed as part of the resources for elections security, to protect law abiding citizens and residences in our country,” the statement noted
According to the statement, “this activity will commence in the morning at exactly 6:00am till midday from Ring Road where the national police headquarters is located, these activities will take place in areas such as 37military hospital, Ako Adjei interchange, Nima, Accra Newtown and others.”
“The police administration is therefore urging the general public for corporation. Officers from the motor transport and traffic department will be deployed to manage the traffic in town,” the statement urged.
